– I am not a cryptocurrency expert. I don’t have a wallet and have never invested in Bitcoin, Ethereum or any other silly coin. I also love video games and have been writing about them for years, but the world of crypto games is uncharted territory for me.

Pixels, an Ethereum-based online farming game, was new to me, but it immediately reminded me of another extremely popular game – Pixels is essentially a charming indie game called Stardew Valley, but with a cryptocurrency twist.

I can’t stress enough how similar this game is to Stardew Valley, both visually and mechanically. I’ve been playing both games over the past few weeks to see how much cryptocurrency changes, improves or worsens the game, and whether “web2gamers” like myself can enjoy Pixels without knowing or dealing with cryptocurrency.

Pixels review: is it worth playing a noisy crypto farm game?

In recent months, the cryptocurrency gaming space has been buzzing with Pixels games, and GG by Decrypt is no exception. We’ve already covered the growth in player numbers since switching to Ronin, interviewed the project’s founder about its rapid growth, and detailed the long-awaited launch of the PIXEL token this week. But unlike many gaming projects that enjoy a moment in the cryptocurrency spotlight, there is a real game behind the hype surrounding the token.

Should you play Pixels even if you are not interested in cryptocurrencies? And did it make you want to finally dive deep into this field? Here’s my opinion.

The game briefly introduces the main currencies – gems, gems and coins – and the PIXEL tokens on the Ethereum blockchain that players can earn (and which are equivalent to real money). Gems are currency that can be earned externally and used to purchase cosmetic items. Popberries are farmed, and coins are earned by fulfilling orders.

How do you fulfill orders? A helpful non-player character (NPC) named Barney will show you how to use the basic tools, and when I say that Pixels is a lot like Stardew Valley, you’ll know what I mean. The first set of tools includes a rusty funnel, a basic axe, a pickaxe, and a sickle. It’s pretty much the same set as in Stardew, and even the name of the rusty funnel is the same. But there’s no hoe, because coins can be used to buy new soil.

It can be difficult to start a game like Pixel. There’s nothing complicated about it, but its connection to cryptocurrencies and SNFT may seem like an unusual game for traditional or “web2” gamers. This guide does not aim to explore the cryptocurrency aspect of this game. Whether it is or not, if you want to worry about something else, you need to understand the ethereum farming game that has appeared on the Ronin network and be able to promote it. Instead, in this guide, we…
