– In this post. A cryptokit fell victim to a malicious transaction, losing over $32 million in wrapped ether.

– The attack was linked to a fraudulent service known as Inferno Drainer.

The stolen tokens were taken from the decentralized financial protocol Spark.

According to the blockchain security service ScamSniffer, the well-known cryptocurrency Whale lost more than $32 million in tokens after signing a malicious transaction. The hack targeted the victim’s wallet via the decentralized finance (DeFi) platform Spark, resulting in the theft of 12,083 Rap Ether (spWETH) tokens.

the current prices, the value of the stolen tokens is around $32.4 million. The attack was linked to a fraudulent operation called Inferno Drainer. This group has been conducting large-scale attacks against cryptocurrency users in a number of decentralized networks.

Arkham Intelligence has determined that the wallet likely belonged to Shixing Mao, also known as Discus Fish, one of the founders of F2Pool and Cobo. However, Arkham Intelligence’s identification of the wallet’s owner is not reliable. Even after this loss, there was about $5.44 million worth of cryptocurrency left in the wallet, according to Arkham.

Inferno Drainer operates on a 20% commission on stolen funds; the developer shut down the service in November 2023, but it came back online in May 2024. The updated version of the scam claims to have new staff, improved help, and updated features, making it even more dangerous than before.

the cryptohacker ZachXBT also noted that the wallet owner was involved in many large transactions with another popular account; according to ZachXBT, the wallet owner and another entity found on the DeBank platform under the name ‘czsamsun’ were transferring nine-figure sums, indicating a connection between the two.

Victim and czsamsun were transferring nine-digit amounts to each other on DeBank and are likely the same person.

Victim’s wallet received a message after the attack offering a 20 percent reward for the return of lost funds.

This incident has caused alarm in the DeFi sphere, urging users to be wary of unfamiliar transactions. Analytics company LookOnChain issued a warning about phishing scams and how not to fall victim to them on website X.

The Inferno Drainer scam is part of a growing number of phishing scams victimizing DeFi users; another phishing platform, Pink Drainer, was shut down in May 2023, receiving $75 million in cryptocurrency from 20,000 victims. .
