Combs was held at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in New York City, where he previously shared a cellblock with former cryptocurrency mogul Sam Bankman-Fried.

According to NBC News in September 2024, sources told NBC News that Bankman-Freed and Combs were housed in a barracks-type area with up to 20 inmates who needed special treatment because of their notoriety.

MDC is notorious for its high level of violence and poor conditions, with several stabbings in the past year alone.

In one example cited by U.S. District Judge Gary R. Brown, MDC’s inmates are notorious for high rates of violence and poor conditions. Brown, MDC inmates often face delayed medical care, deteriorating infrastructure and frequent closures due to violence.

However, with Combs already serving time in federal prison, the rapper’s attorneys will seek a speedy release.

Bankman-Fried, for his part, continues to serve his sentence at Terminal Island FCI in his native California after a recent interview conducted from his cell at MDC.
