📌 Etherium announced a roadmap for core network development called “Strawmap” – here’s a long-term vision through 2029 – BlockNews
The Strawmap core contains five bold aspirations that set the development vector for the Ethereum blockchain.
The first is “high-speed L1, which aims to achieve near-instantaneous finalization and reduce latency, significantly speeding up transaction processing. The second goal, “gigagaz L1, involves performance on the order of 1 gigagaz per second, which is made possible by technologies such as zkEVM and real-time evidence generation.
The third goal, “teragas L2, focuses on extending the potential of Layer 2 solutions to colossal throughputs of up to ten million transactions per second by sampling information availability while maintaining the security of the core network. The fourth goal is to implement quantum-resistant cryptography at the lower layer to provide protection against upcoming quantum threats. The fifth, “private L1, seeks to integrate native privacy functionality, such as encrypted ETH transfers directly at the protocol layer.
Strawmap structures enhancements into three key components: level of consent (CL), data handling (DL), and execution level (EL). Each planned hardfork typically includes one main header for consensus and one for execution to limit the overall complexity within a single release cycle.
The graphical timeline uses colored blocks to show the interconnectivity of updates between different layers, reinforcing the idea that Ethereum’s scaling and security goals need to evolve in a coordinated fashion, rather than progressing in isolation.
It should be emphasized that the Ethereum Foundation emphasizes that Strawmap is not a fixed commitment, but an indicative framework. Its purpose is to rally participants around common long-term vectors, not to set a rigid timeline.
By combining its Tier 1 ambitions into a unified vision, Ethereum demonstrates that its approach to scaling extends beyond short-term changes to a multi-year structural development plan.
