Payward, the parent company of the Kraken crypto exchange, is launching the tokenization of Hong Kong stocks via the xStocks platform; followed by stocks from the UK, Europe, and South Korea. Lets break down what will change and what will remain the same.

Previously, tokenized stocks were understood to refer mainly to U.S. securities. Tesla, Nvidia, and Apple on the blockchainand almost nothing beyond that. Today, the picture is different: Payward, which operates Kraken, is bringing securities traded on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange onto the blockchain, and British, European, and South Korean securities will follow shortly thereafter.

The wording Payward chose for its announcement perfectly captures the scale of the initiative: the largest asset class not yet touched by tokenization is the entire world outside the U.S. Its important to understand what is actually changing and where the promises diverge from reality.

Payward, the operator of Kraken and creator of the xStocks platform, has partnered with GTNa Dubai-based fintech company with access to more than 90 global markets. GTN will be responsible for order execution, custody, and accounting for the securities underlying the tokens, which will expand the selection far beyond the United States.

The launch will begin with assets traded on the Hong Kong exchange, followed by British stocks, other European securities, and South Korean stocks; each step will be taken following approval from regulatory authorities.
