Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin is once again raising the topic of the rapid progress of artificial intelligence (AI), noting that this technology is increasingly outperforming humans even in areas that many had not previously considered.

Buterin points out that for a long time, people have compared human capabilities with those of AI using only a single metric, such as intelligence or economic efficiency.

However, in his view, such a single evaluation criterion creates an illusion, causing us to misinterpret the comparison between AI and humans.

In his recent statements, Buterin has suggested viewing both humans and AI as possessing a diverse set of skills.

This spectrum ranges from physical actions, such as walking or manual dexterity, to cognitive abilities, including strategic planning, emotional understanding, and mental arithmetic.

To illustrate his point, Buterin cited an example from the year 1500, when machines could outperform humans only in a limited number of narrow tasks.

In particular, he mentioned water and windmills, which harnessed natural forces far more effectively than humans could, but in other areas, humans remained unrivaled.

Nevertheless, the creator of Ethereum noted that modern AI systems follow a similar principle, but on a much broader scale. He is convinced that they surpass humans even in aspects that go beyond our current understanding.

Buterin emphasized that AI is gradually expanding its capabilities rather than replacing humans instantly: as technology advances, it begins to outperform humans in one area after another.
